Anyone interested in screen printed posters or poster art in general, should head down to this exhibit at the ArtCenter on Miami Beach. The show runs up until the 19th of November. If you can’t make it out to Flatstock this is a good chance to see some of the great work and artists that have been represented there, including Orlando’s Jeff Matz, who did the artwork for Lakota’s Hope For The Haunted CD.
Punk News has announced that the new EP from former members of Further Seems Forever and Moments in Grace is Available today on Pop Up Records.

I sort of wish Insound luck on their “Save the Album” as well, but I think it’s all a little pointless.
Why? We have to realize that the market is driven by the people who purchase and consume the music. Part of the beauty of the digital/internet revolution is that it’s putting the power into the the edge of the network or into the hands of the end-consumer and this scares labels and retailers. The audience still has the option of downloading a full album that isn’t changing anytime soon, but we all have to get used to the fact that media is going to be consumed alot differently and will probably never go back to “the way it was”
For example let’s talk about television, in 20 years from now the whole concept of a “channel” will be obsolete, everything will be on-demand, as production costs drop and quality improves, studios will be able to create 1-5 episode shows, gauge audience reaction and decide whether or not to produce the show or not. The same is starting to happen inside the music industry. Consumers are tired of shelling out $90 for a cable package that includes mostly channels that they have no desire to watch. Consumers want to watch/listen to media on their own terms.
I don’t write this lightly because I do run a small independant record label, but I have to face the fact and adapt to where the market is going. So as much as I think Insound is a great retailer, I think they’re just wasting time on this one.
I stumbled on to this today while visiting, the “Internet Archive”:http://www.archive.org. It had been awhile since I visited the site, so there seemed to be alot of new content I hadn’t seen before, one thing that caught my eye immediately was the live audio archive, so I decided to check it out.
The live audio archive has a ton of really great downloadable live performances from bands. One of my favorite bands of all time is “Fugazi”:http://www.dischord.com/bands/fugazi.shtml and I saw they have 6 live shows that are available on the site to download. I’m sure I’ll be spending a fair amount of time browsing through the rest of the archives but I just wanted to share this little gem that I found today. Enjoy.

We (Pop Up Records) have decided to take on a new endeavor which I’m pretty excited about. “Bark Promotion”:http://www.barkpr.com. Bark is a digital pr agency, we will be focusing solely on blogs and e-zines to promote independant artists and their records. I think that music and mp3 blogs have definetly reached the point of maturity and deserved to be treated as a legitimate form of media. We saw this space as being underserviced so we wanted to create an agency that would remedy that.
If you have any passing interest in Bono and the kind of person he is, you definetly want to head on over to ChristianityToday.com and read “this article”:http://www.christianitytoday.com/music/interviews/2005/bono-0805.html.
It contains excerpts from the recently released book called “Bono: In Conversation with Michka Assayas”:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1573223093/qid=1125116256/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-2924890-4288956?v=glance&s=books&n=507846. I’ve often wondered about the faith that Bono is always rumored to have and reading this was pretty revealing. “DATA”:http://www.data.org, his fervent campaign to end debt and aids in africa, this latest book, his passionate appeal for help to America’s churches, all these things make you realize that something is stirring spiritually inside of him and it’s truly inspring to watch, read and follow along to.
Pinback has a new record called “Summer In Abbadon” coming out October 12th on Touch and Go Records. If you haven’t heard this band before, do yourself the favor and check out “Blue Screen Life” and then go out and buy the new record when it comes out. The music is catchy and poppy but at the same time intelligent, a rare quality these days.
