Moleskine City Notebooks is a great idea, give someone the bare essentials to tour the city and and let them create the rest of the guide content on their own. Then, if they ever visit the city again, they can go back and review their notes on the next trip. Here are some of what the notebooks contain:

This year all of the Refreshing Cities will be descending upon Orlando for the first ever Refresh conference. If you’re not familiar with the concept of the Refresh meetup it’s basically AIGA for web designers and developers, with a looser structure and no fees.
This first conference has really turned out some good speakers (Andy Budd, Cameron Moll, Garrett Dimon, Jeremy Keith) and some interesting panels If you live in Florida, you should definetly make the trip and if not, you can always make a week of it and go visit Disney.

IdentityWorks has a great review on the Cisco logo redesign. They make some great points about Cisco dropping the word “systems” from their logo. Not only making the logo easier to work with , it’s a good move on their part as they start to move in to other areas besides networking.

I sort of wish Insound luck on their “Save the Album” as well, but I think it’s all a little pointless.
Why? We have to realize that the market is driven by the people who purchase and consume the music. Part of the beauty of the digital/internet revolution is that it’s putting the power into the the edge of the network or into the hands of the end-consumer and this scares labels and retailers. The audience still has the option of downloading a full album that isn’t changing anytime soon, but we all have to get used to the fact that media is going to be consumed alot differently and will probably never go back to “the way it was”
For example let’s talk about television, in 20 years from now the whole concept of a “channel” will be obsolete, everything will be on-demand, as production costs drop and quality improves, studios will be able to create 1-5 episode shows, gauge audience reaction and decide whether or not to produce the show or not. The same is starting to happen inside the music industry. Consumers are tired of shelling out $90 for a cable package that includes mostly channels that they have no desire to watch. Consumers want to watch/listen to media on their own terms.
I don’t write this lightly because I do run a small independant record label, but I have to face the fact and adapt to where the market is going. So as much as I think Insound is a great retailer, I think they’re just wasting time on this one.
We’re starting to see some things changing in the aesthetics of web design specifically in the blogging space. With Shaun Inman’s redesign and the recent posts from Doug Bowman, I believe we’re starting to turn a corner and I’m glad we have talented people like Shaun and Doug to lead the way.
Designers are becoming understandably frustrated with the templated look of most sites that are out today. I want to say that I think Projectionist has contributed much towards this shift. We’re definetly seeing that “fisher price” look Cameron Moll wrote about, but I think we’ll probably see even more in 2007.
It should be interesting to see what happens in the new year.
