“Rails is used internally by some of the world’s largest companies
including Google (it’s really picking up steam there). The approval
process of about 60% of all home loans in the US includes processing
through a Rails app.”
Althought I haven’t been able to really work with Rails since moving to the new job, I still like to keep tabs on where it’s going, etc. The above quote was taken from one of Jason Fried’s comments on a post from D. Keith Robinson’s site. a couple of weeks ago, definetly interesting to hear about larger companies picking up on Ruby and Rails the typical excuses you hear about adopting the language/platform just aren’t going to be holding up anymore.
It seems that lately I’ve been reading or hearing about designers, developers and just people in general that want to leave the South Florida for any number of reasons. My friends want to relocate because real estate costs are atrocious. Designers want to leave because there is a lack of quality interactive and design work. Developers want to leave because there just isn’t enough companies or agencies in the area working on “cool” projects.
I have at one time or another made these same complaints, and when I was in a band, I complained about the South Florida being devoid of any real scene as well. But I’m starting to realize that the complaints are going to have to stop eventually because somebody has to something about it. I’ve been encouraged lately to see things like Refresh Miami pop up.
There are talented designers and developers down here, but they just need an agency to look up to, a group to bring them together and a company to inspire them.
South Florida with all of the hurricanes, high living costs, etc. isn’t that bad of a place to live and work if you make something of it instead of constantly complaining about it. Also, we’re finally getting an IKEA! so things are definetly looking up
