Going To Costa Rica
I’ve been planning a surfing trip to Costa Rica now for almost a year
and it’s become somewhat of an ordeal. We’ve had to postpone our trip
now two times, once because of hurricane Frances and now because of
Ivan, but it looks like it’s finally going to be happening. This will
be my first trip out of the country to go surfing and I’m pretty
excited so I will be posting about the whole experience here on the
site. Below are some good links to get started with. I’ll be following
up with various other posts on preparing for the trip, what i’ll be
bringing and hopefully some photos when I get back.
I highly recommend this book to anyone planning to go to Costa
Rica, even if you’re not surfing. This guy (Mike Parise) goes to over
there every year and updates the guide with new information every year.
Tons of good tips on where to surf, stay and eat. There’s a great
section in the book about what to pack for the trip, you can definetly
tell that the author has been through most of it all and clues you in
on all the potential pitfalls and mistakes. Amazon has it available for order.
I don’t travel alot, but when I do I try to pick a Fodor’s guide to
wherever I’m going. I’ve always just trusted their guides and plus
theyre usually cheap.
This is the travel agency that we used to book our flights, they
seem to really know what they’re doing and I would recommend them to
anyone. Every surfer I have talked to that has gone to Costa Rica has
used them. So they work with alot of people traveling to Costa Rica
that are looking to surf. They can also help you to book packages which are all reasonably priced, if you don’t have the time to book everything else by yourself.
This site has tons of great information on surfing, traveling and
even buying real estate in Costa Rica, but what I like best about this
site is the daily photos of various surf breaks there. It’s pretty
amazing because I check this site almost daily and I have yet to see a
photo of a flat day there. I would say that it’s almost not believable,
but from what I hear it is that consistent in Costa Rica, pretty
amazing.
Surfline always has good information and their travel section on
Costa Rica is great as well. There is detailed information on alot of
surfing breaks there.
I went ahead and thrown out a link to Google’s search results page
on “surfing costa rica” this should provide you a ton of links to other
various sources of information.
